Our Managing Director, Andrew, took a hotel break to Redworth Hall Hotel, here is what he had to say:

We went to see why Redworth Hall has been so popular…

In the land of castles and kings, Redworth Hall Hotel is a 20 minute drive from Durham and well positioned to explore Tyneside, Newcastle, Beamish Open Air Museum, Hadrians Wall and a little further north we crossed the causeway on to Holy Island and Lindisfarne, which I must say is a beautiful unspoiled spot.

Back to Redworth – the hotel is set in acres of well-kept grounds – the sweeping drive has a certain wow factor as the frontage of the hotel comes into view. At the rear of the hotel there is ample car parking to cope with the hotels’ 143 bedrooms. There is no getting away from it, the hotel is popular. I met with the hotel’s General Manager Vince Johnson to discuss amongst other things future promotions – its looking likely the hotel will be extending their offer with myhotelbreak throughout the summer.

The Redworth Hotel has recently changed hands and is now part of the Cairn Group, who have some pretty impressive properties including the Indigo Brand in Edinburgh & Newcastle. Vince was delighted to tell me that investment has already taken place in the Leisure complex, better Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and improving extraction in some of the rooms. 20 rooms have also been earmarked for a total refurbishment later this year.

However, having stayed for 2 nights I thought overall the hotel was in pretty good nick. Our room was absolutely fine, when you got used to the dimmer switch, and the shower very powerful.

The bar I did think was quite small for the size of the hotel, but we didn’t have a problem finding a seat.

The 1744 Restaurant was comfortable and the food was definitely up to the standard of a 4* hotel. There is ample but not extensive choice from the menu for those booked on the inclusive DBB option, but there are a few tasty optional extras. The medallions of beef I had did cost an extra £6 – and was very good. However, if you don’t like your vegetables crunchy let the waiter know on ordering and it can be sorted.

As you can see from the picture taken at 9.00 pm at night, the frontage of the hotel is very eye catching and as you can imagine a popular place with weddings, about 90 of them each year. However, the Function areas are away from the public areas of the hotel so did not inflict in the slightest to the enjoyment our stay.

Value for money wise – well I think they have got it just right –there may well be better 4* hotels out there but not at £59.50 per person DBB. It is without doubt incredible value for money, and to me, what shone out, was the friendliness of the staff and the service in all areas was very good indeed.

For those of you have registered their email address with us, we will let you know when their next offer comes out.  If you haven’t and want to receive notification of this offer and many others click here.

It was great to hear from Vince that myhotelbreak is the 2nd largest producer of leisure guests into Redworth – a BIG thank you to those of you who have used myhotelbreak before, and for those of you who haven’t, then here for you is a credible alternative!
